“I find it really interesting learning about events and periods of time that have shaped societies today.   The passion that the teachers have for their subject has furthered my enjoyment of history”  TGGS Student

A Level classes have two teachers, one for each side of the course. There are two examined units at the end of Year 13 - Tsarist and Communist Russia 1855-1964 and The Making of Modern Britain 1951-2007. In addition there is an independent enquiry on Tudor Rebellions 1485-1603.

Lessons are in the form of lectures, seminars, active-learning, student presentations and various audio-visual resources. All of the lesson resources can also be found on the school VLE as well as extra materials, which students can easily access from home. We encourage students to read widely around the subject and they can follow the History Twitter account to direct them to appropriate and current reading material.

Students are offered lunchtime support and one-to-one help when required, as well as revision sessions in advance of the examinations. We run an intensive revision activity during the Sixth Form Immersion Day to give further examination guidance. We also run a History Film Club to enhance students’ wider understanding of the topics studied.
