Curricular Intent:

Sociology A level offers an engaging and effective introduction to a new subject. Students will learn the fundamentals of the Sociology and develop skills valued by higher education and employers, including critical analysis, independent thinking, and research.  This qualification introduces approaches and methods related to the core areas of Sociology such as Education, Families, Crime and Culture. It enables students to engage in theoretical debate regarding society both in the past and discussing contemporary issues of today; these opportunities give time for reflection, problems solving, speaking and listening, building students’ character skills by understanding the wide variety of human behaviour that exists in society today. Being an evidence-based subject, this encourages an active involvement in the research process, extending students’ scientific knowledge, skills and vocabulary to ensure they attain the highest academic qualification.
