SIXTH FORM NOTICES – Tuesday 21st May

YEAR 12

Can students please ensure that they read the notices in the morning to ensure that you do not miss meetings scheduled with Mrs Horrocks/Ms Browne.

‘Y12 Critical Thinking’

Reminder please that this week’s lesson is today at 12.40pm in the Lecture Theatre.  Most of the lesson will be spent looking at the ghost stories associated with the places we will visit during Friday’s Dartmoor Trip, so please will those students attending the trip make every effort to attend.  An email will be sent to all CT student’s school email account later today to confirm the arrangements for Friday’s trip.  Thank you, Mr Charlwood

Dear students,

In the past, for at least 10 years, the majority of the school’s fund-raising has gone to Impresa school in Kenya, a cause we all feel strongly about and have been proud to be a part of. Last year, in total we sent about £16,000.00 there – an incredible achievement.

We want to review this approach because although many of us love the cause, it is a lot of money over many years going to one place, and there are many who feel strongly about other issues. For example, only this week students have approached me about an epilepsy charity and a climate one.

So, what is going to happen:-

1. On Thursday 6th June, you are invited to pitch on behalf of a charity to a committee made up of Head-Girls

from Upper and Lower school/members of the key Stage 4 committee/ 3 staff.  You would be expected to give us details about the charity – why you think it will appeal to the wider school community and why you think the school should support it.

2. The pitch cannot be more than 7 minutes long, PowerPoint facilities will be available if you need it.

Otherwise it is up to you to make your pitches interesting and persuasive. No pitching team can be made up of more than 3 people.

3. Should staff/governors want to pitch, they too are welcome to do so, but this opportunity is limited to pre-sent staff, governors, teachers or students.

4. After the pitches, a short-list will be drawn up and then the best pitches will be shown to year 7-10 (and in-terested Yr 12 students) in an assembly who will then vote. A proportion of money will also be given to the 2nd and 3rd charity cause.

If you are interested in pitching on behalf of a charity, then you need to have e-mailed Mr. Gregory by 2.00 on Friday 24th May – no late entries will be accepted. In this e-mail you need to include very brief details of your cause and its name, and the names of your speakers.

If you want to discuss any aspect of this, then please see me during registration any morning – please do not e-mail.

Thank you

Mr. Gregory
