South Devon Rounders Tournament

The year 7 rounders squad represented TGGS at the annual South Devon end of season tournament at Forches Cross on Monday, 16th June.  In total there were seventeen schools competing, each pool having four teams.

The girls played South Dartmoor, Brixham and Paignton Sports College in the heats and won all three games with real confidence and determination.  Each game saw the girls build on their batting skills, with strong striking skills from Rachel Norgate, Amy-Beth Curtis and Layla Bowser in particular.  The girls also fielded solidly throughout the afternoon, using their tactical awareness to outwit their opponents in each game. Steady and consistent bowling skills from Jasmine Powell ensured that the opposition’s score was kept to a minimum.  There were also some highly accurate throwing skills displayed by Chelsea Pereira and Grace Maclachlan.  Bethany Gribble also proved her worth on second base, stumping the opposition out at regular intervals when opportunity allowed.

The girls qualified top in their group and played Stoodley Knowle in the semi-finals. The game was tense and exciting from start to end, but unfortunately we lost narrowly seven-and-a-half rounders to five.  The girls finished in third place overall and should be proud of their progress and achievements this term, and during the tournament itself.  Well done to all!
