Millfield Swimming Gala

The TGGS swimming squad once again travelled to Millfield School on Wednesday, 24th September to compete in the annual ESSA South West regional schools relay competition.  As always, the girls performed to a high standard with a multitude of personal bests being achieved throughout the afternoon.  We entered two relay squads into all age categories - Juniors (yr 7-8); Intermediates (9-10) & Seniors (11-13).

Captain Alice Davis (year 13) set a great example to the other squad members and swam a 29.32 for her 50m freestyle leg in the senior front crawl relay. Maisie Dommett in the Junior team achieved a new 50m PB of 40.10 for her 50m butterfly leg of the relay; an outstanding achievement for her age group and a very promising squad swimmer for the future!

Jess Schoenberg, who has been recently competing in some open water competitions, performed fantastically well in the medley relay, gaining a 39.34 for her 50m breaststroke in the intermediate squad 2 medley, showing all her recent training has paid off.  Other impressive performances included the butterfly swimmers within the medley relays. Emma Bickley gained 31.97 in the senior medley, as well as Olivia Hogg who is a welcomed new member to the team and gained a 31.69 for squad 2 of the senior medley relay. Ella Farley exploded off the blocks to bring home a 33.18 for the intermediates and Isobelle Lee sailed in with a time of 38.90 for her 50m breaststroke leg.

A brilliant team effort and now we must merely wait to see if our teams have qualified for the National relay championships in November. A huge thanks and well done to all those who competed!
