Many thanks to Dr Natalie Garrett from the University of Exeter for coming and speaking to us on the amazing topic of biophotonics.
Dr Garrett is a young female scientist working in a pioneering area that may soon have a huge impact on, amongst other things, the way that drugs are delivered to those requiring medication to reach their brain. Her work has taken her to conferences and projects from Australia to San Francisco and to many locations around Europe.
Some of the amazing photographs shown by Dr Garrett illustrated the incredible power of light technology via focussed laser beams to enhance images of brain tissue, enabling surgeons to see tumours with more clarity, and allowing us to monitor the delivery of drugs through nanotechnology.
Dr Garrett is a member of the Institute of Physics, an organisation that, 'aims to advance physics to the benefit of all.' You can find out more about the IOP here and see some more phographs here.
