Food & Nutrition Round Up - Spring Term

It's been a busy term for Food & Nutrition students with lots of exciting opportunities organised by Mr Mann - here's a just a 'taste' of what they've been up to!

Sharing TGGS Lockdown Love! Spreading some TGGS lockdown love on Valentine’s Day

This year it’s been more important than ever to show the people close to you that you care. With Valentine's Day during lockdown, it was the perfect opportunity to make someone you love feel really special; whether it's parents, grandparents or your best friend by baking up some tasty Valentines treats.

Practical Chicken Skills Cook Along with a Commando Chef, Practical Fish Skills Cook Along with a Navy Chef, and Celebrating female achievements in the world of food for International Women’s Day with a Celebrity TV Chef & Author

CSGT Mike Beaton, MBE, virtually joined our GCSE classes for a TGGS Exclusive LIVE Lockdown Cook Along. The Commando Chef Royal Marine has served around the globe from operational tours of duty have in Northern Ireland, to the jungles of Serra Leona. He has also represented Great Britain 7 times in the World Long Course Triathlon Championships, from Japan to Denmark, Switzerland to France and all this has been achieved whilst on tours of duty within the Royal Marines. 

Simon Gray, also virtually joins our GCSE classes . The Royal Navy Chef trained in catering at Westminster College (alongside the likes of other Westminster Chefs like Jamie Oliver), had his own restaurant, managed multi-site restaurants and has even cooked for royalty at prestigious sporting events and London hotels. 

Manju Malhi, BEM, is a celebrity TV Chef with her own TV series called 'Simply Indian', she also presented the BBC 'Food and Drink' programme, has written 7 award winning cook books, appears on ITV's 'This Morning', BBC's 'Saturday Kitchen', Sky One's 'Great Food Live' and presented with Paul Hollywood on his 'Pies and Puds' BBC series. She virtually joins our GCSE classes for an exclusive International Women's Day cook along.

 

TGGS student cooking on BBC! Molly represents the school on TV cooking show

Year 8 student, Molly Xu, appeared on BBC food programme 'Step Up to The Plate' with Fred Siriex (‘First Dates’ fame) and chef Allegra McEvedy. Her signature main dish she was a Pan-Fried Sea Bass on a bed of Ginger and Potatoes served with a salad of Tomatoes and Cucumbers.

 

Food provenance at TGGS! KS3 classes return in 2021

 Harvesting Leeks, Turnips, Kale, and Purple Broccoli, plus checking up on the garlic, our school kitchen gardens are all ready for cooking in class.
