May Super Marathon - Run to Kenya update!

Following our fundraising efforts with the May Super Marathon, last week two of our students presented a cheque for £7669.99 to Operation Imprezza. Alix Brewer from year 7 travelled the furthest, clocking up a massive 299 miles on her bike and swimming. Lizzie Bumby raised the most money of any student with £674! We couldn't be prouder of the massive efforts of our students, and more is being raised today with the Mufti-Day.

Operation Imprezza was started by a student from TGGS who went out to Kenya during the summer holidays and visited Imprezza Secondary School in one of the slums in Nairobi. On her return, she persuaded her Head of Year to raise some money for the school and TGGS have continued to support Imprezza ever since.  It is located in the 3rd poorest part of Kenya with around 67% of the population living in absolute poverty. There is a very high HIV infection rate and consequently, many orphans. Over the years TGGS staff and pupils have, through their fundraising efforts, donated many tens of thousands of pounds to Operation Imprezza.  It would be impossible to list all their achievements but building classrooms, girls dormitories, shower block and toilets and
this year raising money towards a replacement vehicle gives an indication.

Why do they need a new vehicle?  The vehicle is a taxi, load carrier, ambulance, school transport, you name it and it does it. The old vehicle has "died" at 23 years of age and a replacement is urgently needed. For more information about Imprezza please visit thier website www.operation-imprezza.org
