Highest number of grades 8 & 9 ever for GCSE public exams!

This year, almost half of every GCSE grade awarded to our Year 11 class of 2022 is a grade 8 or 9.  Headteacher, Ms Sarah Forster, said, “Our students are all exceptional, inspiring and talented young people and we couldn’t be prouder.  The resilience they have shown under the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic has been remarkable.  We are very pleased with their results and we know that their strength of character and determination will contribute to them becoming ‘history makers’ of the future.”

Ms Sophie Bucklar, Head of Pastoral Care, and Mrs Tania Grigg, Head of Sixth Form, both paid tribute to the approach of all students receiving their GCSE results this year.

Ms Bucklar commented “I’m deeply impressed with the tenacity and resilience of our students in overcoming the challenges of last two years and going on to achieve such impressive results.”

Mrs Grigg said “I’m delighted that so many of our students want to study A levels with us; we are seeing very high numbers of applications. A level examination results were our best ever last week, and we are confident that this GCSE cohort can transfer their GCSE success to A level. Their future is bright!

“The number of students who have shown consistency in gaining top grades is particularly outstanding this year. Rozenn James, Bethany Hines, Isobel Atkins, Ella Smith and Eleanor Sexton achieved all Grade 9s, with Isobel and Eleanor receiving ten each. Iona Farquarson was awarded nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8. What makes this even more impressive is that Isobel and Iona were also in our successful 35 mile and 45 mile Ten Tors teams, competing the weekend before exams started.

“Nearly a quarter of our students gained at least 7 top 8/9 grades. These are spectacular results in the context of the pandemic, high local Covid rates in the run-up to the exams and all the interruptions to education in the last couple of years."
