National Chemistry Week 2013

This year November, 16th to 23rd was designated 'National Chemistry Week' by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) who organised events across the country to celebrate chemistry and chemical scientists.

Schools, colleges and universities across the country were also encouraged to plan activities to coincide with and complement national and local events.  Here at TGGS there were activities such as taking part in a global experiment testing for vitamin C levels in fruit and vegetables.  There was also a lunchtime quiz, ably won by a group of Year 8 students (see photo) and a scavanger hunt, won by Maggie Foulds in 7W.

Vicky Perera, 11J, was victorious in the challenge to 'Find someone who...' a competition in which sixteen people had to be found to answer questions of a chemical nature!

This year's theme was health, which includes ageing, hygiene, lifestyle, nutrition and future health (including global pandemics).

A big thank you to the Chemistry prefects for all of their help in organising the activities for the week.  Well done, everybody!
