Mr Neighbour invited to present at INSIGHT Mars seminar

INSIGHT Mars Mission - A year ago the InSight space mission successfully landed on Mars. This represents 355 Martian operations days (sols) that have been undertaken on the Red Planet including deployment of the solar panels followed by deployment of the SEIS sensors. Since SEIS was installed with its wind and thermal shield, data has been accumulating.  Researchers are analyzing the data and identifying marsquakes in order to decipher information about the internal structure of the planet.

Subject Lead for Geology Gordon Neighbour has been invited to attend and present at an exceptional training seminar for teachers which will be held in Nice, France on 2 and 3 March 2020 and he is the only UK based teacher to have been granted a place. The program includes conferences with members of the science team from NASA and the French Space Agency, practical activities around the mission data and a poster session to show how the data has been used within classes.  This data will be then used to enhance the curriculum that the students study as part of their GCSE Geology course, which includes modules on the geology of Mars.
